Your documents and the visa
Full legalisation
Austria does not accept apostilles from Vietnam. Your documents need full legalisation: certification by your foreign ministry, then legalisation at the Austrian embassy. This takes longer than an apostille, so start early.
Visa D required
Citizens of Vietnam apply at the Austrian embassy in Hanoi before travelling to Austria.
Processing time
Usually 6 to 10 weeks for applicants from Vietnam; the legal maximum is 90 days. Waiting for an embassy appointment: ~3 weeks.
Specific to Vietnam
- Ministry of Education certification + full legalisation
- Notarized Vietnamese-German translation
- Police clearance from local authority
Where will you study?
Pick a city for its universities, rents and immigration office.
Common questions from Vietnamese students
Most Vietnamese bachelor's and master's degrees are recognized. You will need fully legalised documents (Austria does not accept apostilles from Vietnam) and notarized translations. Some programs may require additional credential evaluation.
